Suboxone®, Subutex®, & Sublocade® at Salterra
Evidence-Based Medication + Compassionate Care for Opioid Recovery
What Is Medically Assisted Treatment?
Medically Assisted Treatment (MAT) combines FDA-approved medications with behavioral therapy and clinical support to treat substance use disorders—most commonly opioid addiction.
MAT helps reduce cravings, prevent relapse, and stabilize brain chemistry, giving clients the opportunity to focus on long-term healing through therapy, structure, and supportive care.
At Salterra OC Detox & Treatment in Orange County, MAT is never a “standalone solution.” Instead, it is part of a comprehensive recovery plan that includes therapy, relapse prevention, and holistic healing.
MAT helps to:
Reduce cravings and prevent relapse
Stabilize brain chemistry
Improve focus on therapy and recovery goals
Support long-term recovery and independence
Maintenance for Opioid Addiction
One of the most effective forms of MAT is Suboxone Maintenance, designed for individuals who have struggled to stay sober after detox. Suboxone® is a combination of buprenorphine (a partial opioid agonist) and naloxone (an opioid blocker), which works to reduce cravings without producing the euphoric effects associated with full opioids.
Suboxone, when prescribed and monitored by a licensed physician and paired with counseling and clinical support, can significantly increase the chances of long-term recovery.
Our MAT Program
At Salterra OC Detox & Treatment, our Suboxone MAT protocol occurs in three structured phases:
Induction, Stabilization, and Maintenance. This approach ensures safety, personalized care, and gradual transition into long-term recovery support.
Suboxone® (Buprenorphine + Naloxone)
Combines buprenorphine (reduces cravings) with naloxone (prevents misuse)
Reduces relapse risk and helps stabilize recovery
Commonly prescribed for outpatient and maintenance support
Subutex® (Buprenorphine-Only)
Contains buprenorphine only (no naloxone)
Sometimes used during pregnancy or when naloxone is not recommended
Provides the same craving reduction as Suboxone without the opioid-blocking component
Sublocade® (Extended-Release Buprenorphine Injection)
Once-monthly injection of buprenorphine
Eliminates the need for daily medication, supporting consistency and adherence
Helps clients who struggle with pill compliance or diversion concerns
At Salterra, we customize each client’s MAT plan based on medical history, withdrawal severity, and recovery goals. Treatment occurs in three structured phases:
Induction Phase
Begins 24–48 hours after last opioid use, once detox is complete
Clients are closely monitored to avoid precipitated withdrawal
First doses of Suboxone® or Subutex® are carefully timed to stabilize the body
Stabilization Phase
Dosage adjusted for cravings and withdrawal control
Ongoing clinical monitoring for side effects & emotional regulation
May transition to Sublocade® injection for long-term stability
Focus on therapy integration and relapse prevention
Maintenance Phase
A tailored maintenance plan using Suboxone®, Subutex®, or Sublocade®
Regular reassessments to determine readiness for tapering or continuation
Clients engage in therapy, support groups, and holistic care
Flexible duration: short-term for some, long-term or indefinite for others

FAQ Medically Assisted Treatment
What’s the difference between Suboxone and Subutex?
Both contain buprenorphine, which reduces cravings. Suboxone also contains naloxone, which helps prevent misuse. Subutex is often used when naloxone isn’t recommended (such as during pregnancy).
How does Sublocade work?
Sublocade is a once-monthly injection of buprenorphine, providing continuous craving control without needing daily medication. It’s ideal for clients who prefer a long-acting option.
Is MAT a lifelong treatment?
Not always. Some clients use MAT short-term, while others benefit from long-term maintenance. Every plan is personalized based on recovery progress.
Does insurance cover Suboxone, Subutex, or Sublocade?
Yes—many insurance providers cover FDA-approved MAT options. Our team can quickly verify your benefits and explain coverage.
